What was happening in Whitby between 80 and 110 years ago? The following collection of adverts from early 1930's and 1897 in Whitby may give us some clues. There's some really interesting, telling and enlightening adverts with quotes about the times, a good source of whitby family names and research.
Some of our favourite quotes are:
"all rooms have hot and cold water" Amazing how far we have come today. Nowadays people expect to see something like all rooms have 42" plasma tv's!
"Electric lights throughout" Cutting edge technology!
"Sooner or later you will stay at the royal" Is this a boast or an order!
