Below the first ever issue of the Whitby Gazette, issued on 6th July 1854. Published by Ralph Horne. Hornes still have a stationary shop on Skinner Street today. The publishing business was bought out by Whitby Gazette many years ago. The first issues of the gazette were more records of visitors and lodgings than a newspaper.
